Spring Crop

All the rain this spring has prevented us from doing much in the way of gardening just yet. We did manage to get a lovely little pyramid bed installed.

First, we removed the sod from a 6 foot circle:

Then, we dug the soil fairly deep and raked the seedbed fine:

Then, we installed a metal ring around the bed:

Next we filled that metal ring with some well-aged compost and ran the water hose to the middle:

Now the middle ring is in place, hose ran and compost started. After this, the top ring will be installed and filled as well, and the hose will run to the top.

After all our hard work and weeks of waiting, the crop looks to be ready to harvest!

  1. How funny! As if you keep your feathered friends out of good soil! Have fun with this truly beautiful design. Is the hose connected to a water source? or is it a short hose that you can connect to when you want to?

  2. Bwah!

    Nice lookin' garden!

We've gotten green beans and potatoes in our ugly raised beds, and will be transplanting tomatoes and peppers asap. But we nearly have to swim out to the damn things, what with the rain we've had so far. Twenty-five inches this year, and our big big lake nearby is just 2 feet from going into the spillway, which has never happened.

Maybe we can all start to dry out next week.

  3. Theresa,
The hose is just a short one - I just hook the regular hose up to it when it's time to water.

I never got strawberries planted, and I still can't keep the chickens out of the strawberry bed. I even found an egg in there the other day!
